Valuing a used Jeanneau

Jeanneau builds cruising and offshore racing yachts, along with a wide range of motor boats, from fishing and day boats to yachts. What makes a Sun Odyssey valuable is not what makes a Merry Fisher valuable: here is what buyers look at, family by family, and how to prepare the sale.

Jeanneau families on the used market

Jeanneau was born in Les Herbiers, in the Vendée, and is part of Groupe Beneteau. Under sail, the Sun Odyssey covers cruising, the Jeanneau Yachts range the largest boats and the Sun Fast offshore racing. Under power, the main families include the Merry Fisher, Cap Camarat and NC, and more recently the Velasco and DB.

Prestige started at Jeanneau as a range of motor yachts before becoming a brand of the group. The oldest models sometimes appear under the Jeanneau name in listings: what counts is the model and the year, not the label.

Sailing yachts: generation and programme

The Sun Odyssey has been renewed in generations, and some recent models introduced sloping side decks that make moving around on board easier. As with any production yacht, the version (cabins and heads), the age of the standing rigging, the condition of the sails and any charter history all move the value.

A Sun Fast is judged differently: buyers look at the sail inventory and its age, electronics, autopilot, offshore safety gear and racing use. Preparation for offshore racing has value of its own, provided it is documented.

Motor boats: engine, version and extras

On a Merry Fisher or Cap Camarat, the outboard power weighs heavily in the value. The engine year may differ from the hull year, and a recently repowered boat presents better with its invoices and an hours reading.

The version matters too: centre console, walkaround or day cruiser on the Cap Camarat, fishing-oriented or family-oriented versions of the Merry Fisher. For small boats, a roadworthy trailer sold with the boat is a plus, as are a cover or recent electronics. On an NC, Velasco or DB, engine maintenance and comfort equipment make the difference.

Preparing to sell a Jeanneau

  • find the exact model name and version, the hull year and the engine year;
  • have the engine hours recorded during a service;
  • list the sails with their year, or the electronics and fishing gear;
  • gather the boat's papers, the purchase invoice and evidence of VAT status;
  • think about timing: demand for day boats is often concentrated before the summer.

The method

How the valuation is calculated.

Every size and every age is valued. The only exception: a boat so rare that no comparable boat is for sale; a specialist then sends you a price within 24 hours, free of charge.

Indicative valuation. It does not replace a survey.

  1. Comparable boats for sale today

    Listings less than 12 months old, date read on the listing, widened to similar models when they are scarce. When there are many, the most expensive third is set aside.

  2. Brought back to your boat's year

    The listings kept are adjusted for the depreciation observed between years.

  3. From asking price to sale price

    The usual gap between asking price and sale price is applied, according to the boat's length and age.

  4. Adjusted to your boat

    Overall condition, engine hours, equipment and VAT status.

  5. One price, and what it rests on

    A rounded price, the number of boats compared, and by email the listings used with their links.

Frequently asked questions

Valuing a used Jeanneau

My yacht is listed as a Jeanneau Prestige: how is it valued?

What counts for the valuation is the model, its length and year, not the trade name it was sold under. Enter the model as shown on your papers. The Prestige page explains what drives the value of these yachts.

My Merry Fisher has a newer engine than the hull: how is it valued?

Enter the hull year, the one on the papers, and describe the current engine at the engine step: its hours are part of the adjustments in the calculation. When selling, put the repower forward with its invoice, as buyers will check it. Indicative valuation. It does not replace a survey.

Is a Sun Fast that has raced a lot worth less?

Not necessarily. A well-prepared, well-maintained offshore racer appeals precisely to buyers looking for that preparation. The age of the sails, the condition of the rigging and keel, and yard invoices count for more than the number of races.

Is the valuation free?

Yes, and there is no sign-up. The result appears on screen; your email is only needed if you want the summary with the comparable boats used.

Does the valuation replace a survey?

No. It is an indicative valuation of the market value, based on listings. Only a survey by a marine surveyor establishes the boat's actual condition.
